  1. Hi David,
Please update the podcast schedule, so we know what films to watch before you review them on HiT.
    Thanks

  2. Dear David and Wolf,
I have been binging on Hx in TC lately and have just listened to the “The Lost City of Z”. David, you made a reference to a movie of which you couldn’t quite remember the details or the name, but the protagonist’s fate is to be trapped in a South American jungle village reading English Literature to a recluse who has taken up residence there.

I think you are referring to “A Handful of Dust”, a movie adaptation of Evelyn Waugh’s novel of the same name. It stars the glorious Kristin Scott Thomas and James Wilby. After refusing Kristin’s character (Brenda) a divorce, James’ character (Tony) goes off on a South American expedition, only to be “kidnapped” by a man who uses Tony as a reader, condemned to read Dickens to him for the rest of his life.

This movie remains vivid in my mind for the scene in which Brenda, utters “Thank God” when she finds out it was not her lover but her young son who was killed in a riding accident.

Someone has probably already got in before me to tell you about this film and your reference but I couldn’t find it and I knew it would be eating you up if you didn’t know.

    Regards,

    Trish Thompson

    1. Thanks Trish. I remember it now I must admit – and it’s a film that makes me shiver every time I hear the name.
