English Mighty Medieval Monarch Poll and Prize

I was thinking of a way to celebrate St George’s Day this year (23rd April), and decided maybe it should fall to use to make the definitive decision about the Greatest English Medieval Monarch. Along the way you may enter a Prize Draw to win one of two coins – an Edward Ist penny, or an Elizabeth I penny.

Here is the process:

Stage 1: There’ll be a series of pre-selection group rounds, 4 groups of 8-9 monarchs, top 2 from each group go through to the final. Each group will go up on the FB Group.¬†Polling has started!

Stage 2: There’ll be a poll of the qualifying 8 through the History of England website (i.e. this website!), where you can enter for the draw if you wish. The poll will go up on St George’s Day.
Here are the rules:
  1. Alfred the Great was the first of our kings, not counting Pendas and Offas and things. (Lectures about how it’s not really England in 871 will be returned unopened).
  2. Medieval England ended on 22nd August 1485. The next day everyone started being Early Modern.
  3. There are no selection criteria. You can choose your own!
The prizes!
When you go to vote in the final round here on the website, there will be an option to enter the prize draw by entering your email address when prompted. If you do, your email address thus given will be used for no other purpose than this quiz. There will be two winners of one coin each, and the coins are as below:
